Life Skills

Life Skills for Stage 6

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Number
Whole numbers
  • Recognise and use language representing quantities

  • Use the digits 0 to 9 to represent a range of numbers

  • Identify where Loading  are used in everyday contexts

  • Classify numbers as odd or even, positive or negative, and by number of digits

  • Count using different strategies

  • Order and compare numbers

  • Estimate and compare quantities using terms and/or symbols greater than (>), equal to (=) and less than (<)

  • Use ordinal terms in everyday contexts

  • Recognise factors and Loading  of numbers

  • Identify and interpret negative numbers in a range of contexts

  • Recognise positive and negative numbers on a Loading 

  • Calculate using positive and negative numbers

  • Round whole numbers

Patterns
  • Recognise Loading  in the built and natural environment

  • Describe number patterns

  • Recognise and extend patterns of Loading  or numbers

  • Identify inconsistencies in shape or number sequences

  • Create patterns from instructions and descriptions

Place value
  • Recognise that increasing powers of ten represent place value

  • Identify the value of each digit in a number

  • Compare numbers containing zero, where the zero has different place values

  • Examine numbers of very large magnitude

Number problems
  • Complete calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

  • Apply number facts and strategies to investigate problems

  • Calculate missing values in a number sentence

  • Construct a number sentence to solve a problem

  • Use a pronumeral to replace a missing value in a number sentence

  • Use mathematical language, symbols and Loading  in calculations involving the four operations to solve word problems in a variety of contexts

  • Complete operations in the correct order when solving problems that involve multistep calculations

  • Apply Loading , square, other powers and grouping symbols in calculations

  • Determine whether an answer is reasonable by using context and estimation

  • Explain the strategy used to solve a problem

Fractions

Decimals

  • Add and subtract decimals using a variety of strategies

  • Multiply and divide decimals by powers of 10

Percentages
  • Recognise and use language that relates to Loading
