Life Skills

Life Skills for Stage 6

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Measurement
Time
  • Respond to language relating to time

  • Recognise and use language that relates to time

  • Identify and order days of the week, months of the year and seasons

  • Recognise units of time and common abbreviations: seconds (secs or s), minutes (mins or min), hours (hrs or h)

  • Order units of time

  • Recognise Loading  units of time

  • Convert between units of time

  • Describe everyday activities using appropriate units of time

  • Identify devices commonly used to measure time

  • Loading  and measure the passage of time

  • Distinguish between morning and afternoon or ‘am’ and ‘pm’

  • Identify what day or time of day different activities will occur

  • Sequence activities and Loading 

Managing time
  • Associate personal activities and events with times

  • Communicate dates for events of personal significance

  • Create a personal schedule by ordering daily activities according to the time of day and how long they will take

  • Use a calendar to record and plan personal events

Interpreting time
  • Use and interpret time to plan activities

  • Make decisions about activities using knowledge of time

  • Estimate and calculate the duration of an activity

  • Use timetables to calculate and make decisions about time

  • Read and relate times on digital or analog clocks

Volume

Capacity

Temperature

  • Recognise the units used to measure temperature and their abbreviations, including Celsius ()
  • Identify devices used to measure temperature

  • Describe situations in which temperatures are important

  • Estimate and measure temperatures

  • Record and interpret temperatures to the nearest degree Celsius

  • Calculate the difference between two temperatures

  • Apply knowledge of temperature to make decisions or judgements

Energy
