The new Geography Elective 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Geography Elective 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

Dynamic nature of political, economic and military powers
Political tension and conflict across a range of scales
Impact of migration and displacement in creating political tension in both source nations and host nations
Roles of individuals, groups and governments in conflict resolution
Post-conflict reconstruction, sustainable peace and recovery
Promotion of global environmental sustainability through international agreements, national policies and collaborative efforts
International diplomacy and its role in peacebuilding, preventing conflicts, resolving disputes and promoting long-term peace in conflict zones
Role of political systems in enhancing human rights, including how democratic systems and legal institutions protect and promote human rights
Mechanisms, organisations and key strategies involved in fostering economic development and wellbeing
Processes, organisations and solutions involved in effective disaster relief and humanitarian aid efforts
Investigation of at least ONE area of political cooperation, diplomacy or successful conflict resolution.
Successful initiatives, resolutions or agreements that have led to peace, sustainability or human rights advancements
Political systems and international agreements that have successfully addressed environmental or social challenges
Contributions by international organisations to promoting global peace, security, economic development or humanitarian aid through cooperation and diplomacy
