  • Select and apply relevant geographical concepts

  • Conduct geographical inquiry by analysing geographical information

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of a geographical inquiry

  • Select a range of relevant geographical tools

  • Create written texts to describe and explain geographical processes relating to geomorphic, atmospheric and ecological features

Geomorphology
  • Geomorphic features of the Earth’s surface

  • Geophysical processes associated with tectonic plate movement, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes and tsunamis

  • Physical and chemical weathering processes that transform the Earth’s surface

  • The associated roles of water, wind and ice in the processes of weathering, erosion and deposition responsible for transforming the Earth’s surface

Climatology
  • The nature of climate and how it differs from weather, including differences in temporal and spatial scales

  • Atmospheric processes that influence weather and climate, including global air circulation, pressure systems, wind, temperature variation and rainfall patterns

  • Geographical factors that shape climate patterns, including latitude, altitude, topography and distance from the coast

  • Regional and surface influences on local and regional climates, including prevailing winds, ocean currents, land cover and human activity

Biogeography
  • Ecological significance of biodiversity hotspots

  • Spatial distribution and physical characteristics of a selected ecosystem

  • Relationships between plants and animals in a selected ecosystem

Investigative study

Investigation of ONE environment.

  • Nature and spatial distribution of the selected environment

  • Biophysical interactions operating in the selected environment

  • Human interactions with the selected environment

  • Interactions with a selected environment that focuses on traditional Knowledge Systems of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Peoples or other international Indigenous Peoples

  • Significance of Earth’s natural systems for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Peoples and other international Indigenous Peoples and how they manage and care for the selected environment
