Designing and making: Viewpoints
Structural
  • Investigate design theories, elements and principles and apply this understanding to own design artworks

  • Evaluate the relationship between form and function, including useability and accessibility in design artworks, and apply this understanding to own designing and making

  • Make ethical and inclusive design artworks using codes, symbols, signs, conventions and forms of multisensory language to construct meaning and communicate intent

Subjective
  • Investigate how to represent designing and making ideas in personal, imaginative, intuitive and expressive ways

  • Evaluate how the choice of expressive materials, multisensory elements and the properties of design artworks can evoke emotional connections and represent meaning to audiences, and apply this understanding to own designing and making

  • Make design artworks to represent ideas about the world, inspired by imagination, memories, personal and multisensory experiences, using ethical practices

Cultural
  • Investigate how to use, adapt and respect artistic, cultural, social and sustainable designing and making practices, conventions, traditions and protocols

  • Evaluate how the choice of images, stylistic conventions and forms in design artworks respond to and represent cultural and social ideas, concerns or beliefs, and apply this understanding to own designing and making

  • Make design artworks using ethical practices to represent ideas that explore cultural and social values, and meaning about the world

Contemporary
  • Investigate design strategies, techniques and processes that challenge, critique and reimagine accepted ideas and assumptions in the designing and making of design artworks

  • Evaluate how the choice of design forms, texts, technologies, material qualities and contexts can represent and challenge meaning and engage audiences, and apply this understanding to their own designing and making

  • Make design artworks to represent ideas about the world that adapt, transform, innovate and reimagine styles, forms and conventions from a variety of disciplines and sources, using ethical practices
