The new Music 7–10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2026.
2024 and 2025 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2026 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Life Skills
- MULS-COM-01
creates a variety of sounds through exploration of the elements of music
- MULS-COM-02
makes choices about musical material to communicate an idea
- MULS-COM-03
improvises, arranges or composes rhythms or melodies
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Interact with a variety of instruments, sound sources and voices
Experiment with performance methods to intentionally produce different musical material
Select, order and create original musical material
Explore connections between composers, performers and music
Develop and use vocabulary of composition
Record and notate musical material
Participate in group or individual composition and/or improvisation activities
Reflect on own work
Participate in composing music that reflects a particular genre or style
Select and arrange sounds to create pieces of music for specific purposes or settings
Compose music using prompts and stimulus from a range of cultural contexts, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures, with consideration of principles of appropriation and respect
Provide feedback about ideas communicated in the compositions of others
Use feedback to improve own composition
Understand safety protocols related to sharing work on public or private forums
Make choices about the use of the elements in own composition
Communicate the effect of their use of the elements
