Timber industry: Project development
Work health and safety and risk management
  • Identify the role of SafeWork NSW, regulations, standards and codes of practice in maintaining a safe workplace

  • Recognise and comply with work health and safety (WHS) documentation and signage, and follow WHS rules when designing or producing

  • Outline the principles of risk management and implement risk-reduction procedures

  • Describe first aid procedures and outline the procedure to follow after particular incidents

Project design
  • Outline the importance of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples and how it is related to relevant projects

  • Investigate materials, technologies, sustainable development and Practices used to inform design solutions by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples

  • Identify and investigate factors influencing design in projects to develop specifications

  • Use Australian regulations, standards and codes of practice when designing and producing

  • Use, modify and create designs to complete projects

  • Identify sustainable materials, technologies and practices when designing projects

  • Test and evaluate the suitability of materials and the effectiveness of tools, equipment and processes

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of design on the quality, function and aesthetics of finished products

Project management
  • Select and document materials, equipment and processes used to make components or projects

  • Prepare materials lists and calculate quantities and costs when making projects

  • Apply project management strategies when developing projects

  • Propose, apply and evaluate plans for production, using project management tasks and tools

  • Outline and apply a quality management system to support production processes including testing, quality assurance and quality control

  • Identify and allocate roles for collaborative production processes

Project communication
  • Use subject-specific terminology to communicate industrial technology concepts

  • Discuss the importance of graphical literacy for communication across industries

  • Apply a range of graphical communication techniques including freehand sketching, diagrams, graphs, charts or computer-aided design (CAD) software during project development

  • Use digital technologies to develop and communicate ideas

  • Create written texts to document, reflect on and evaluate project development, production and management processes

  • Demonstrate digital literacy and information management skills when working with digital systems and in online environments

  • Develop and apply safe data management practices when collecting and storing data
