Rationale
The study of the Industrial Technology 7–10 Syllabus enables students to develop knowledge and skills in the use and application of materials and technologies to make practical projects for a range of industry contexts.
Studying Industrial Technology 7–10 develops students’ knowledge and practical skills through the processes of design, project development and production. Creative exploration of industrial processes encourages students to embrace an understanding of cultural and social diversity in the practice and application of industrial technologies. This includes learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples who have used and applied their Cultural Knowledges over millennia to develop environmental, technological and sustainable management Practices.
Students engage in projects that involve real-world concepts and challenges. They learn about the interaction between technology, industry, society and the environment, including improving access and participation. Students learn to make informed, responsible decisions about the safe use of current and emerging technologies that improve production processes and foster innovation. Related knowledge and skills are developed through specialised use of tools, materials, techniques, project development methods, construction and making quality projects.
The Industrial Technology 7–10 Syllabus builds on the knowledge and skills developed in the Loading and allows students to apply knowledge to new situations, further developing their practical and technical skills. Students improve their project development skills through planning, collaborating, communicating ideas, engaging in processes and designing solutions.
Students have the opportunity to become increasingly confident, skilful, efficient and discerning when using various technologies to develop projects. They expand their understanding of related industries and work environments while developing skills to equip themselves for further education, vocational pathways and personal interests. These may include careers in building and construction trades, technical trades, manufacturing or project management roles across a range of production industries.
