The new Aquatic Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027.

2027 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Stage 5
Teachers select options from:
- Aquatic activities
- Aquatic industries
- Aquatic harvesting
- Aquatic engagement project.
This focus area provides students with the opportunity to investigate, report, communicate and implement their own ideas or skills in a field of aquatic engagement. The project is an opportunity for students to apply the skills they have acquired to solve a defined problem in the context of aquatic engagement.
The project could address activities such as:
- design and make sporting or fishing equipment
- service or repair aquatic equipment
- prepare seafood dishes
- design and model built-environments for aquatic contexts
- design training programs for water sport
- design and prototype equipment for an aquatic environmental or conservation purpose.
Investigate opportunities to identify a problem in the context of aquatic engagement
Outline the scope and intention of the aquatic engagement project
Gather, analyse and present research from a range of sources to inform progress through the project
Record proposals, ideas or intentions using a range of graphical communication techniques
Apply project management strategies in the development of an aquatic engagement project folio
Identify sustainable materials and practices
Select and use resources and equipment including digital technologies
Identify and implement safe work practices including when using digital technologies
Demonstrate digital literacy skills when working with digital systems and in online environments
Outline stages in production or implementation of the project
Use regulations, standards and codes of practice when producing or implementing
Produce or implement the project solution
Assess the impact of the project solution on society and the environment
Evaluate the project solution against agreed criteria.
