Science of movement (option)
Nutrition and hydration
  • Outline the role of food as a fuel source, including energy input and energy output

  • Compare the nutritional requirements for a range of physical activities and sports

  • Explain the factors that contribute to rapid fluid loss during physical activity and examine the consequences of dehydration

  • Investigate how technology can be used to measure and monitor nutrition and hydration

  • Identify various sources of hydration and assess the marketing strategies of products that claim to enhance hydration

  • Participate in a range of physical activities and sports and assess factors that may influence the nutritional and hydration requirements for athletes

  • For a chosen sport, identify opportunities and strategies to assist with nutrition and hydration during competition or performance

Body systems
  • Describe the structure and function of the muscular and skeletal systems in relation to physical activity

  • Participate in a range of physical activities and sports, and identify the major muscles and bones used to perform specific skills

  • Describe how major muscles and bones work together to contribute to efficient movement

  • Identify and describe types of joints and joint movements in physical activity and sport

  • Describe the structure and function of the circulatory and respiratory systems in relation to physical activity

  • Investigate how technology can be used to measure and monitor changes experienced by the body when participating in physical activity.

  • Participate in physical activities of varying intensity and duration, and monitor the changes experienced by the body, including heart rate, recovery heart rate and ventilation rate

Aerobic and anaerobic exercise
  • Distinguish between aerobic and anaerobic activities

  • Explain how technology can be used to differentiate between aerobic and anaerobic exercise

  • Engage in different sports and identify their aerobic and anaerobic components

  • Compare how aerobic and anaerobic efforts differ in an identified physical activity or sport

  • Explain the influence aerobic and anaerobic training has on the components of fitness
