The new Physical Activity and Sports Science 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Physical Activity and Sports Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

in Stage 4 teachers may adjust the Stage 5 outcomes as appropriate to the needs of students in Years 7 and 8
Identify the similarities and differences between physical activity for health and physical activity for fitness
Examine the positive impact that regular physical activity, sport and competition can have on the dimensions of health
Explain how sport and sporting events can enhance local communities
Propose strategies to increase participation in physical activity and sport in the local community
Describe the features of successful Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander programs that aim to improve health outcomes and engagement in sport
Explain the importance of physical activity and sport for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, their Cultures and Communities
Evaluate the positive impact that role models have on the individual and community, including role models in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities
Explain how self-management skills and personal attributes can increase the potential for success for elite athletes
Discuss how skills and attributes, developed through various roles involving physical activity and sport, may be transferable to school, the community or workplace settings
Outline the various ways people can volunteer in contexts related to physical activity and sport, and explain the personal and community benefits of such involvement
Discuss current and historical perspectives of Australia as a sporting nation and participate in a range of sports that are traditionally considered to be ‘Australian sports’
Investigate current trends of participation in physical activity and sport across diverse groups in Australia and analyse how these trends reflect Australia’s sporting identity
Assess how physical activity and sport contribute to the establishment of community and national identities in Australia
Investigate how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders’ Cultures contribute to Australia's sporting identity
Examine how the increased involvement and success of women in sport locally and internationally has influenced Australia's sporting identity
Examine the contribution of diverse cultures to Australia’s sporting identity
Evaluate how the behaviour of spectators and viewers can impact Australia’s sporting identity
Investigate the achievements of a diverse range of Australian athletes and sporting teams
Select an Australian athlete or sporting team and explain how their success has influenced their sport, individuals and communities
Assess the social and economic implications of Australia’s performance in international sporting events
Engage in a range of physical activities that are designed to enhance participation for people with disability
Participate in a range of physical activities that are culturally significant and explain how they are used to communicate cultural knowledge
Engage in a range of physical activities that enhance participation, skill development and a sense of accomplishment for children
Participate in a range of physical activities that assist older people in terms of healthy ageing
Describe how adaptive sports equipment supports participation for a diverse range of people
Analyse how physical activity and sport can be used to address the specific needs of a diverse range of people
Create written texts to explain and evaluate the role of physical activity and sport in the community
Use subject-specific language to communicate concepts of physical activity and sport in the community
