The new Physical Activity and Sports Science 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Physical Activity and Sports Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

in Stage 4 teachers may adjust the Stage 5 outcomes as appropriate to the needs of students in Years 7 and 8
Identify and discuss a range of applications of technology relevant to physical activity and sport
Investigate the contribution of technology to officiating, performance, increased participation and spectator engagement
Discuss the ethical implications of technology in physical activity and sport
Discuss the impact of technological advancements on enhancing the safety of athletes and officials
Examine at least one current issue relating to technology in sport, including the impact it has on athletes, spectators, officials or the wider community
Identify and discuss different types of media used to represent sport
Analyse how media coverage can influence the popularity of certain sports and athletes
Identify and explain how bias in the media can affect athletes, spectators and the wider community
Describe how the media has contributed to the globalisation and commercialisation of physical activity and sport
Explain how the media can promote awareness of societal issues and positively influence safety in sport
Evaluate the conduct of athletes as they engage with the media and describe the influence this has on perceptions of the sport and the athlete
Examine at least one current issue relating to media in sport, including the impact it has on athletes, spectators, officials or the wider community
Explain how equity can influence sports policy, administration and participation
Assess the implications of athletes engaging in activities that create an unfair advantage, including the use of performance-enhancing drugs
Examine the evolving role of women in sport, their achievements and the positive influence this has on public perceptions, sponsorship opportunities, participation rates, and spectator engagement
Explain the role of Cultural mentors for high-performing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander athletes
Examine how varied population groups face challenges and demonstrate resilience in sporting contexts, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
Assess how sport can be used to raise awareness and connect communities in areas such as culture, equity and health issues
Discuss the degree to which technology can create equity for participants in physical activity and sport
Examine a current ethical issue in sport and how this can influence individual and community values, attitudes and perceptions
Create written texts to explain and evaluate the nature of a range of issues in sport
Use subject-specific language to communicate concepts related to issues in sport
