Life Skills for Stage 4/5

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Historical skills

This section outlines the historical skills relevant to each focus area, which can be integrated with the content.

Comprehension – chronology, terms and concepts
  • Engage with historical texts

  • Recognise the everyday language used to describe time

  • Use units of time to describe the recent past

  • Use units of time to describe longer time periods

  • Record events across the passage of time using calendars and diaries

  • Sequence components of familiar activities or events in chronological order

  • Sequence past events in chronological order

  • Use appropriate historical terms and concepts to communicate about the past

Analysis and use of sources
  • Recognise how a source helps us understand the past

  • Locate information in a source

  • Use sources to answer questions about the past

  • Consider the value and limitations of a source

Perspectives and interpretations
  • Recognise that other people have a variety of perspectives on events
