2027 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.

Geographical inquiry skills content is to be integrated throughout the course where appropriate.
Identify an issue, problem or challenge
Formulate geographically significant questions
Plan an inquiry that identifies and applies appropriate geographical methods and concepts
Collect, select and record relevant geographical data and information from a variety of sources, applying ethical practices
Analyse geographical data and information by using geographical tools and qualitative and quantitative methods
Evaluate usefulness, reliability and bias of data and information
Represent data in appropriate forms with the use of geographical tools
Represent the spatial distribution of geographical phenomena on maps that conform to cartographic conventions, using a range of geographical tools as appropriate
Use various information sources to make generalisations and inferences, propose explanations for patterns, trends, relationships and anomalies, and predict outcomes
Use geographical concepts to combine information from various sources
Draw conclusions based on the analysis of data and collected information while considering alternative perspectives
Use a range of geographical tools to analyse geographical data
Select findings, arguments and explanations for their effectiveness, audience suitability and purpose
Explain the predicted outcomes and consequences of proposed individual and collective action
Reflect on and evaluate the findings of an inquiry to propose change by applying active citizenship principles in response to contemporary geographical issues, problems or challenges
Communicate geographical understanding in a variety of forms selected for their effectiveness and to suit a range of purposes, audiences and contexts
Present findings, arguments and explanations in a range of communication forms and technologies, using relevant geographical concepts and terminology
