The new Aboriginal Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027 and will replace the Aboriginal Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2020).
2025 and 2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

Teachers select options from:
- Aboriginal Peoples and the visual arts
- Aboriginal Peoples and the performing arts
- Aboriginal Peoples and the media
- Aboriginal Peoples interaction with legal and political systems
- Aboriginal Peoples and film and television
- Aboriginal Peoples and technologies
- Aboriginal Peoples and sport
- School-developed option.
- Traditional sports and games of Aboriginal Peoples and Torres Strait Islander Peoples 
- The role and importance of Traditional sports and games for Aboriginal Peoples 
- The role of sport in Aboriginal Communities and ways of life 
- The history of Aboriginal Peoples' participation in sport at all levels, including positive and negative experiences 
- The reasons for sport becoming important to the expression of Aboriginal identity 
- Key aspects of stereotyping, and personal and institutional racism towards Aboriginal Peoples in sport 
- Gender issues associated with sport for Aboriginal Peoples 
- Effects of racism in sport on Aboriginal Peoples and Communities 
- Examples of sports organisations, programs and events that are aimed at combating racism 
- Ways in which sport challenges racism and discrimination 
- Correlation between the increase in Aboriginal participation and success in sport and the breakdown of barriers between Aboriginal Peoples and non-Aboriginal people and communities, including the local and regional Community 
- The contribution of Aboriginal sportspeople as role models locally, nationally and internationally 
- Investigate a significant local, state or national sporting event that is part of Aboriginal Cultural expression 
- Communicate ideas about a significant local, state or national sporting event that is part of Aboriginal Cultural expression 
- Apply ethical research skills, including consultation protocols, to work effectively with Aboriginal Peoples and Communities 
- Demonstrate understanding of ethical responsibilities surrounding Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP)
