Life Skills

Life Skills for Stage 6

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Performance

In Performance, students develop knowledge and skills in safe dance practices and techniques to perform dance works in different styles and contexts to communicate an idea or intent. Students follow class protocols and help create safe and inclusive spaces. They use the language of dance performance and develop an understanding of how dance training supports performance in a range of dance styles and contexts. They have opportunities to explore the elements of dance in performance and to participate in dance performance in cultural, social or personal contexts.

Context
  • Engage in protocols and responsibilities to establish safe and inclusive creative spaces

  • Participate in dance as an art form and in other contexts

  • Engage in dance movements from various styles

  • Identify relationships between dance training and dance styles

  • Participate in dance experiences in a range of contexts

  • Recognise and use the language of dance performance, including context, dance technique, genre, style or interpretation

The dancing body
  • Identify the skeletal structures, major muscle groups or mobility aids used in movement

  • Identify the importance of skeletal structures or major muscle groups to safeguard the body for movement

  • Engage in healthy practices to develop and maintain a body safe for dance

  • Participate in dance training to develop dance technique

  • Demonstrate increasingly complex combinations of body skills relative to anatomical structure

  • Move the body in response to various music styles and sounds

  • Explore how the dancer uses music to express feelings or ideas

  • Perform movements with a sense of musicality

  • Perform movements with a sense of commitment and confidence

  • Perform movements with a sense of purpose and feeling

  • Reflect on and communicate individual progress to improve performance

  • Manipulate the body using the elements of dance to communicate a personal interpretation

Structure
  • Perform phrases of movement to communicate an idea or intent

  • Recognise auditory elements of a dance work

  • Identify changes in auditory elements at different parts of a dance work
