The new Dance 7–10 Syllabus (2023) is to be implemented from 2026.
2024 and 2025 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2026 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.

Stage 5
- DALS-APP-01
responds to dance performances from a range of artistic, cultural, social or personal contexts
- DALS-APP-02
communicates how the elements of dance are used in performance
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Audience etiquette in response to performance
The language of dance appreciation
Personal experiences and contexts influence the way people experience dance
The purpose of dance varies across societies and cultures
Experience dance as an art form and in other cultural, social or personal contexts
Engage with dance from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, following appropriate cultural protocols
Express a preference for a dance work or dance style
Find and select in-person or online dance performances to attend or access
Recognise that the choreographer makes choices related to the dancer(s) on stage
Experiment with movement sequences from live or recorded dance
Communicate responses to dance performances
Recognise the theatrical elements that support the dancer to communicate the intent
Identify how the choreographer uses aspects of space to communicate the intent
Identify how the choreographer uses aspects of time to communicate the intent
Identify how the choreographer uses aspects of dynamics to communicate the intent
Create written texts to communicate the intent of a performance
