Context
  • The conventions of contemporary dance practice including class protocols, behaviour and responsibilities to self and others

  • Context determines what to perform and how to prepare

  • Dance as an art form

  • The language of dance technique, style and interpretation in the context of dance as an art form

  • Prepare and perform within the context of dance as an art form

The dancing body
  • Identify and demonstrate alignment relative to individual skeletal structure and major muscle groups

  • Identify and demonstrate the healthy practices of warm-up and cool-down as well as nutrition, hydration, rest and wellbeing to safely maintain the body

  • Develop self-awareness with regard to body placement

  • Perform movements with appropriate control, strength, flexibility, endurance and coordination through the application of dance technique and safe dance practice

  • Express a range of emotions, ideas and intents through dance relative to style and performance quality

  • Reflect on own practice of dance technique, safe dance practice and performance quality

Elements of dance
  • Understand that the elements of dance are space, time and dynamics

  • Understand that the elements of dance and auditory elements are combined and manipulated by the performer relative to style, interpretation and context

  • Demonstrate the purposeful use of the elements of dance relative to style, interpretation and context

  • Combine and manipulate the elements of dance to demonstrate performance quality relative to context, style and interpretation
