The new Dance 7–10 Syllabus (2023) is to be implemented from 2026.

2026 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.

describes dance works from a range of contexts using the elements of dance
Dance works are made, performed and appreciated in artistic, cultural, social and personal contexts
The language of dance appreciation including context, subject matter, theme, genre, style, movement and art form
The components of analysis appropriate to the context including movement, dancers, elements of dance, auditory and theatrical elements
Personal context influences the analysis and appreciation of dance
View dance works from a range of contexts, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander dances
Examine the period a dance work was made, set and viewed
Identify and apply the components of dance analysis relating to dancers
Describe the choreographer’s use of the dancing body to communicate the intent
Study repertoire from professional works to understand and appreciate protocols, the role(s) of the dancer and the technical skills required to communicate the intent
Understand how the choreographer creates movements using the elements of dance, auditory and other theatrical elements to communicate the intent
Discuss the choreographer’s use of the elements of dance to communicate the intent in a professional work
Identify and describe in written form how the elements of dance have been used by the choreographer in a professional work to communicate the intent
