The new Dance 7–10 Syllabus (2023) is to be implemented from 2026.
2024 and 2025 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2026 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Stage 5
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Class protocols and responsibilities to establish a safe creative space
The role of the performer to interpret and communicate ideas through movement
The language of dance performance
Dances have performance protocols, including those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures
Develop awareness of personal space in the context of dance
Manage personal space in the context of dance
Participate in dance for different purposes
Participate in school or community dance experiences as an audience member or part of the performance
Demonstrate safe dance practice relative to the individual performer
Prepare and safeguard the body for movement, including warm-up and cool-down
Engage in healthy practices to maintain a body safe for dance
Demonstrate how the body can move and express ideas through performance
Train the body using aspects of dance technique
Record and reflect on individual progress
Explore supplementary methods of training
Move all or part of the body exploring space
Move all or part of the body exploring time
Move all or part of the body exploring dynamics
Use the elements of dance to communicate an idea
