The new Textiles Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Textiles Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

Stage 5
Identify and describe different purposes of textile design
Investigate how textile designers adapt designs in response to consumer demands
Evaluate adaptive, emerging and innovative textile technologies for specific purposes
Describe how innovative textile design can improve accessibility, participation and inclusivity for diverse populations
Assess the functional requirements of textile products for their intended purpose
Generate textile ideas and concepts for identified needs and diverse purposes
Identify a range of fibres, yarns and fabrics used in the creation of textile projects
Outline differences between natural and synthetic fibre production
Compare characteristics of yarn types, including staple and filament composition, single and plied structure, low and high twist, and other properties, including strength and texture
Identify properties and structures of fabrics, including woven, knit and non-woven
Explain how properties of fibres, yarns and fabrics determine their suitability for end use
Evaluate sustainable material sourcing practices for textile design and production
Explain the selection and suitability of materials for textile products
Identify elements of design, including shape, size, colour, value, line, direction and texture
Identify principles of design, including proportion, balance, rhythm, emphasis, contrast and harmony
Describe elements and principles of design featured in works created by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
Assess how elements and principles of design feature in the works and collections of textile designers
Explore customary and contemporary decorative design Practices developed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
Investigate textile designs and designers that feature creative decorative applications
Generate ideas and concepts for innovative design and technological applications
Demonstrate safe and ethical practices when using digital design and technological applications
