The new Textiles Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Textiles Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

Stage 5
Identify textile art forms created for expression, communication and Storytelling
Describe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander textile designer Practices and products
Explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ material sourcing Practices and describe the suitability of the materials for end use
Investigate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander customary Practices and outline how they are applied to contemporary designs
Evaluate ethical considerations for the use and appropriation of designs and products
Explore design inspiration sources in the local area to generate textile design ideas and concepts
Apply protocols for designing with respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designers, Communities and Cultural Knowledges, including Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP)
Investigate textile designers and textile products from a range of historical periods
Identify and describe how historical design features can be applied to contemporary designs
Investigate reasons textile design practices have changed over time
Evaluate how textile practices have changed over time to improve sustainability
Investigate and evaluate textile practices and describe design features of textile products from a range of cultural groups
Evaluate how diverse cultural perspectives may influence the work of textile designers
Identify historical and cultural design features to apply as sources of design inspiration in the development of textile projects
Identify fibres cultivated in Australia for use in textile design and production
Describe local and global techniques used in the cultivation and processing of fibres
Identify and evaluate sustainable textile materials and practices
Identify textile supply chain systems to assess future development opportunities
Explain current challenges that may influence future development of Australian textile industries
Discuss emerging opportunities to improve sustainable textile practices
