7–10Textiles Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025)
The new Textiles Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Textiles Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise textile products that are important to the local Community
Explore how textile products are used for expression, communication and Storytelling
Recognise Cultural connections to textile Practices in the classroom and local Community
Identify a range of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander textile products
Explore materials, technologies and Cultural Practices used by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples
Explore how customary Practices are used in contemporary textile designs
Generate ideas influenced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ textile Practices
Identify Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) relating to design works
Identify textile products from a range of cultures or historical periods
Explore similarities and differences in textile designers or products from different cultures or historical time periods
Identify historical design features used in contemporary designs
Identify how textile production has changed over time
Explore textile practices from a range of cultural groups
Recognise that cultural perspectives may influence the work of textile designers
Recognise that contemporary textile practices may be more sustainable than historical textile practices
Use historical or cultural design features as sources of design inspiration for textile products
Recognise that textile fibres can come from plants or animals grown in Australia
Identify how fibres become fabric
Identify textile products that are produced locally and globally
