7–10Food Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025)
The new Food Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Food Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Identify foods that can be grown for consumption
Explore how foods that are grown are made safe for consumption
Identify processes that can be used to transform raw ingredients into other foods
Explore how technology is used in food processing
Identify how food properties can change during processing
Recognise foods that can be preserved
Identify ways food can be preserved
Explore food preservation methods developed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
Identify different types of food packaging and their purpose
Identify information on a range of food labels
Explore government regulations for food labelling
Participate in labelling or packaging food for preservation
Demonstrate safe and hygienic food preparation practices
Participate in designing a meal using appropriate food preservation methods
Follow safe and hygienic practices when using primary and secondary food processing methods
Recognise food events in familiar contexts
Identify food options available at food events
Identify types of catering people use for food events
Identify information on a range of menus
Identify ways food can be served at an event
Engage with food events or catering experiences in the local community
Identify and apply food safety practices when preparing and serving food
Explore how technology can be used to order, prepare, serve or deliver food
Identify sustainable practices used in food events and catering operations
