7–10Food Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025)
The new Food Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Food Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise the body uses energy from food to function
Identify sources of nutrients
Identify nutrients in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ customary foods
Identify the functions of different nutrients
Explore the role of the digestive system
Identify foods that are high in dietary fibre
Identify how dietary fibre keeps the body healthy
Recognise that nutritional needs change during each stage of life
Explore why nutritional needs may change over time
Participate in generating ideas or solutions to promote nutritious foods to individuals or groups of people
Identify how foods introduced into Australia can influence the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
Participate in food preparation methods that support healthy eating
Demonstrate safe and hygienic food preparation practices
Participate in designing a nutritious meal to meet the needs of an individual or a group of people
Follow safe and hygienic practices when preparing a nutritious meal to meet the needs of an individual or a group of people
Recognise food choices made in everyday living
Recognise Australian food guides that promote healthy eating
Identify factors that influence food selection
