7–10Food Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025)
The new Food Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Food Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise places to access food in the local community
Identify local and community food systems
Identify how local and community food systems can enhance accessibility to meet peoples’ needs
Identify ways local and community food systems minimise waste and improve sustainability
Explore how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples use customary sustainable food Practices
Recognise that some communities experience barriers to accessing nutritious foods
Identify factors that affect access to food
Explore the role of food rescue organisations and how they provide food for individuals and communities
Participate in generating ideas or solutions for meals or packaging for a food rescue organisation
Identify how local businesses or community groups create opportunities to prepare or share food
Explore how local and community food systems use media for marketing and promotion
Participate in using food presentation, photography or styling techniques to promote local and community food systems
Demonstrate safe and hygienic food preparation practices
Participate in designing a meal that minimises food waste
Follow safe and hygienic practices to prepare food using locally sourced and/or seasonal ingredients
Recognise that foods are produced in a range of geographical locations
Identify ways food can be distributed globally
Explore challenges affecting food production and distribution
Recognise why some individuals and groups of people may not have access to food
Identify factors that ensure food security
Recognise that global food relief agencies help people in need
Identify ways global relief agencies provide food to groups of people in need
Identify safe and responsible practices in global food supply and distribution
