Life Skills

Life Skills for Stage 4/5

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Applying design processes
Investigation
  • Recognise a range of materials used in everyday products

  • Explore the properties and characteristics of a range of materials

  • Explore materials, technologies and Cultural Practices used by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples

  • Identify design opportunities in the local area

  • Identify a need in a familiar context

  • Explore existing design solutions to address a need

  • Collect information about the needs of end users

  • Recognise and locate a range of resources to support idea generation

  • Collect and store data safely

  • Develop a design brief to outline a design solution

Idea generation and development
  • Generate ideas for a design solution

  • Develop criteria to test a product

  • Explore a range of graphical communication techniques to represent ideas

  • Present ideas and information using oral, visual, written or multimodal texts

  • Explore the suitability of design ideas

  • Communicate ideas, techniques or solutions when designing

  • Develop problem-solving skills to manage projects

  • Follow regulations, standards and codes of practice when designing and producing

Production and realisation
  • Explore resources to produce design solutions

  • Select materials appropriate for production
