The new Design Innovation Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Design and Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise a range of materials used in everyday products
Explore the properties and characteristics of a range of materials
Explore materials, technologies and Cultural Practices used by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples
Identify design opportunities in the local area
Identify a need in a familiar context
Explore existing design solutions to address a need
Collect information about the needs of end users
Recognise and locate a range of resources to support idea generation
Collect and store data safely
Develop a design brief to outline a design solution
Generate ideas for a design solution
Develop criteria to test a product
Explore a range of graphical communication techniques to represent ideas
Present ideas and information using oral, visual, written or multimodal texts
Explore the suitability of design ideas
Communicate ideas, techniques or solutions when designing
Develop problem-solving skills to manage projects
Follow regulations, standards and codes of practice when designing and producing
Explore resources to produce design solutions
Select materials appropriate for production
