The new Design Innovation Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Design and Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.
Content
Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise ways that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples use technologies to create design solutions
Explore past, current and emerging technologies in design or production
Explore how assistive or adaptive technologies support participation and inclusion
Recognise sustainable technologies that improve everyday living
Create an oral, visual, written or multimodal text to communicate how technology has influenced the way we live
Identify and use assistive or adaptive technologies to perform various tasks
Recognise personal preferences or strengths when using technology
Identify and select materials, tools and equipment to produce a design solution
Demonstrate the safe and responsible use of technologies, including digital technologies, when designing or producing
Participate in the safe use of tools and equipment when producing design solutions
Use technologies to resolve problems in design solutions
Use digital technologies to communicate ideas or solutions
