The new Design Innovation Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Design and Technology 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

Life Skills
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise technology used in everyday contexts
Explore design solutions that support everyday living
Recognise how design solutions support end users
Explore a range of design industries
Explore Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ design Practices
Explore design solutions used by a range of cultures
Consider ethical, sustainable or legal factors that influence design practices
Explore a range of designers and their work
Explore Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designers across a range of design disciplines
Recognise sustainable design in everyday products
Explore responsible and sustainable practices when designing or producing
Explore the work of past and contemporary designers
Explore collaborative practices used by designers
Identify design processes used by designers
Explore community or career opportunities in design industries
Create an oral, visual, written or multimodal text to communicate one or more factors that affect the development or production of design solutions
