Plant production
Plant anatomy and physiology
  • Describe the structures and functions of xylem and phloem in plants

  • Describe how osmotic pressure and transpiration control the movement of water and dissolved minerals through the xylem and phloem

  • Describe how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples use and manage plant parts for medicinal and food consumption

  • Conduct a practical investigation to determine how the structures of leaves, stems and roots support their functions in gas exchange, and water and nutrient transport

Plant genetics, growth and development
  • Identify the abiotic factors that affect the growth of plants, including light, atmospheric gases, soil type, the available moisture and nutrients, temperature and wind

  • Describe the purposes of genetic selection in plants, including disease resistance, drought resilience, increased yield and enhanced quality

  • Compare the phases of growth in a monocotyledon and a dicotyledon used in commercial agricultural production
