The new Science and Technology K–6 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027. The Science and Technology K–6 Syllabus (2017) will not be available after December 2028.
2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

uses evidence to explain how scientific knowledge can be used to develop sustainable practices
- ST3-PQU-01
poses questions to identify variables and conducts fair tests to gather data
- ST3-DAT-01
interprets data to support explanations and arguments
Observe behavioural and structural adaptations of plants and animals, and suggest how these may help them survive in their Loading
Examine and explain how the characteristics of flowers, fruit and seeds are adaptations for reproduction in plants
Interpret a Loading that describes the flow of matter and energy between plants and animals in an Loading
Identify and describe how the loss or introduction of plants or animals affects an Australian ecosystem
Examine evidence that environments have changed over time and continue to change
