7–10Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus
The new Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

Describe how families can support child growth and development
Investigate the financial costs of supporting the growth and development of a child
Analyse how family contributes to a child’s cultural awareness and sense of identity
Describe ways Aboriginal Kinship structures support the growth and development of children
Evaluate community groups and organisations that support child growth and development
Outline nutritional guidelines for children
Evaluate breastfeeding and bottle-feeding in relation to a child’s nutrition
Identify guidelines for weaning and explain the importance of weaning for growth and development
Investigate meals suitable for children at different stages of development
Identify common food intolerances and allergies experienced by children and how they can be managed
Outline physical activity guidelines for children at different stages of development
Propose ways families and communities can support children to participate in physical activity
Outline opportunities for parents and carers to develop literacy and numeracy skills in children
Describe how foundational literacy and numeracy skills can be developed through play
Analyse the role of caregivers in supporting literacy and numeracy at different stages of development
Explain how understanding and embedding cultural perspectives in education can create more inclusive and effective literacy and numeracy development strategies
Explain the importance of Cultural perspectives in supporting the development of literacy and numeracy for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children
Investigate the science of learning and science of reading
Explain how literacy and numeracy can support children’s development
Investigate and assess community resources and services that support literacy or numeracy development in children
Investigate how the role of technology in the growth and development of children has changed over time
Describe strategies that caregivers and children can implement to maintain safety when using technology and media at different stages of development
Identify and discuss legislation and policies that help keep children safe when using technology and media
Explain the impact of technology and media on children’s learning and development
Describe how assistive technologies enable inclusion and participation
Evaluate the benefits and challenges of technology and media for a child’s learning and development at different stages of development
