Play and learning (core)
Children at play
  • Compare the terms ‘play’, ‘learning’ and ‘education’

  • Compare types of play, including solitary, parallel, cooperative, social and risky play

  • Describe the terms ‘child-led play’ and ‘adult-led play’

  • Describe how children learn and develop through play

  • Investigate how play promotes a child’s wellbeing

  • Propose strategies to enhance inclusion for all children in play

  • Describe the value of learning through play in a variety of indoor, outdoor and natural settings

  • Analyse the benefits of providing opportunities for supervised risky play

  • Outline how Cultural play activities contribute to Cultural identity for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and how they can learn on-Country

  • Analyse how play activities contribute to development and cultural identity for children from a diverse range of backgrounds

Educating children
  • Outline different types of formal education for children

  • Evaluate community resources and services that provide informal educational experiences

  • Identify cultural learning opportunities to enhance education

  • Describe the role of diverse cultural experiences in a child’s education

  • Analyse how formal education, including through road safety programs, water safety programs and other educational programs, supports the safety of children
