Options

Teachers select options from:

  • Birth to 5 years
  • Early childhood education and care
  • The mental health and wellbeing of children
  • Children globally
  • School-developed option.
School-developed option (option)

Through the school-developed option, schools are provided with the opportunity to develop students’ knowledge, understanding and skills related to a particular area of interest or a current issue, and to design and develop strategies for effective learning.

The school-developed option should cover a particular area that is not studied through other core focus areas or options.

The content selected for the school-developed option must not duplicate content studied in other NESA 7–12 PDHPE syllabuses.

Only ONE school-developed option can be studied within a 100-hour or 200-hour Stage 5 course.

Knowledge, understanding and skills relating to the growth, development or care of children

The following content points should be addressed:

  • The impact of the selected issue on the growth, development and care of children, including children from diverse backgrounds and with diverse needs

  • Support services and resources

  • Consideration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and Cultures

  • Policies and legislation
