Teachers select options from:

Birth to 5 years (option)
A strong start
  • Explain how postnatal services for parents and babies can support the growth and development of children from birth to 5 years

  • Investigate how cultural practices contribute to the growth and development of children from birth to 5 years

  • Explore ways Cultural Knowledges support the growth and development of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children from birth to 5 years

  • Explain the importance of early learning for children from birth to 5 years

Milestones from birth to 5 years
  • Describe the milestones from birth to 5 years, including physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development milestones

  • Describe the different types of relationships that children have between birth and 5 years, including the bond between parent and child, and how these support development

  • Explain how cognitive development can be influenced by the environments and events a child experiences

  • Evaluate methods of supporting a child’s speech and language development

  • Investigate the impact of bilingual language learning on language acquisition and development

  • Outline ways Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children develop their Cultural identity

  • Examine factors that affect the physical development and movement of children from birth to 5 years

  • Discuss the importance of early identification and intervention for developmental delays in children from birth to 5 years

Supporting the first 5 years
  • Research government and community strategies that aim to improve outcomes for children, including for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children

  • Describe how built environments can be designed to be inclusive for children from birth to 5 years

  • Identify the types of adjustments to the home environment that support safety for children from birth to 5 years, including restraints in cars

  • Describe skills and strategies that can be taught to children to support their safety from birth to 5 years

  • Explain how meeting daily care needs can support the health of newborns and babies

  • Analyse how routines support growth and development from birth to 5 years
