7–10Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2025)
The new Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

in Stage 4 teachers may adjust the Stage 5 outcomes as appropriate to the needs of students in Years 7 and 8
Teachers select options from:
- Birth to 5 years
- Early childhood education and care
- The mental health and wellbeing of children
- Children globally
- School-developed option.
Explain how postnatal services for parents and babies can support the growth and development of children from birth to 5 years
Investigate how cultural practices contribute to the growth and development of children from birth to 5 years
Explore ways Cultural Knowledges support the growth and development of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children from birth to 5 years
Explain the importance of early learning for children from birth to 5 years
Describe the milestones from birth to 5 years, including physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development milestones
Describe the different types of relationships that children have between birth and 5 years, including the bond between parent and child, and how these support development
Explain how cognitive development can be influenced by the environments and events a child experiences
Evaluate methods of supporting a child’s speech and language development
Investigate the impact of bilingual language learning on language acquisition and development
Outline ways Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children develop their Cultural identity
Examine factors that affect the physical development and movement of children from birth to 5 years
Discuss the importance of early identification and intervention for developmental delays in children from birth to 5 years
Research government and community strategies that aim to improve outcomes for children, including for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children
Describe how built environments can be designed to be inclusive for children from birth to 5 years
Identify the types of adjustments to the home environment that support safety for children from birth to 5 years, including restraints in cars
Describe skills and strategies that can be taught to children to support their safety from birth to 5 years
Explain how meeting daily care needs can support the health of newborns and babies
Analyse how routines support growth and development from birth to 5 years
