7–10Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus
The new Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Child Studies 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

in Stage 4 teachers may adjust the Stage 5 outcomes as appropriate to the needs of students in Years 7 and 8
Identify healthcare options for expectant mothers
Discuss the importance of screening programs to monitor key stages of child growth and development
Describe prenatal screening programs and procedures that monitor the health and safety of the mother and baby
Describe newborn screening programs and how they support the growth, development and care of newborns
Outline the immunisation schedule from birth, including for Aboriginal newborns
Analyse the role of immunisation in the prevention of disease and illness in society
Evaluate factors that affect the accessibility of screening programs and immunisations for children and families
Describe trends of disease and illness in children, including mental ill-health
Identify common causes of childhood injuries and protective strategies to minimise risk
Propose strategies and safe practices to promote child health and wellbeing in a range of situations, including near the road and driveways, near water and in the playground
Identify the symptoms of and treatments for respiratory viruses, gastroenteritis and whooping cough in children
Outline the symptoms of and treatments for asthma, allergies, anaphylaxis and type 1 diabetes in children
Describe the impact of otitis media on Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and explain the importance of effective treatment
Describe how the natural environment can have an effect on common diseases, illnesses and conditions experienced by children
Explain the importance of teaching children basic hygiene practices to prevent the spread of infectious childhood diseases and illnesses
Analyse the role of organisations in preventing the spread of infectious childhood diseases and illnesses
Outline the rights of children in health care
Assess healthcare policies and legislation, that protect the rights of children
Investigate the financial costs associated with accessing healthcare services for children, including government payments and health insurance
Analyse the importance of children having meaningful participation in their own health care
Investigate health services, allied health services and community services that support children and families from diverse backgrounds
Investigate health services, allied health services and community services that support Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and families
Explain the role of a collaborative approach to care in supporting children with acute and chronic health conditions
Outline the importance of providing Cultural safety in health services in meeting the needs of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and families
Assess campaigns and government programs that support the health and wellbeing of children from diverse backgrounds, including Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children
Evaluate the accessibility and reliability of information and services that support the health of children
Research the additional healthcare needs and support required for children with a disease, illness or medical condition
Create written texts to explain the relationships between childhood development and aspects of health
Use subject-specific terminology to communicate concepts of childhood health
