7–10Work Education 7–10 Syllabus (2025)
The new Work Education 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Work Education 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

Stage 5
Teachers select options from:
- Preparing for the workplace
- Workplace environments and culture
- Exploring post-school pathways
- Enterprise and entrepreneurial behaviours
- Managing income from work
- Connecting with the community
- School-developed option.
The characteristics of the public sector and the private sector
The different forms of business ownership including sole trader, partnership, private company, public company, cooperative and not-for-profit
The features of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander business sector
How a franchise operates, including the role of a franchisor and a franchisee
The differences between for-profit and not-for-profit organisations
The way the sharing economy works and its impact on the labour market
The factors to be considered when working overseas
The advantages and disadvantages of being self-employed
Differences in workplace cultures within and across industries and how these may influence career decisions
The purpose and benefits of organisational structures
The factors that can contribute to effective and productive workplace relationships, including different types of management styles
The skills needed for effective teamwork in varying contexts
The benefits and challenges of working in a team, including intergenerational teams
The role of intercultural understanding in work relationships at local and global levels
The features of inclusive workplace practices
Legal protection of employees from discrimination and harassment
The influence of workplace cultures on career satisfaction
Changes that can occur in the workplace
The reasons for changes in the workplace
The impact of changes in the workplace, including technological change and emerging technologies
The effects of changes in the workplace on career planning
Strategies to manage change in the workplace
Examine and practise skills for navigating workplace environments and culture in hypothetical and real-world work situations
Investigate a current issue in relation to workplace environments and culture, and communicate findings using subject-specific terminology in written, oral, visual or multimodal form
Create written texts to explain and analyse aspects of workplace environments and culture
