The new Work Education 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Work Education 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

The aspects of an individual’s life that influence education and work transitions
The impact of socio-economic circumstances on work opportunities and access to work
Challenges young people face when transitioning to work
Costs and benefits of further education and training
The financial implications of preparing for and managing education and work transitions
Strategies needed to achieve goals for a range of education and work transitions including job interview skills
The features and benefits of personal networks and career-planning tools and resources
The role of technology in managing education and work transitions
The importance of self-agency skills when managing education and work transitions, including being resilient and solutions-oriented
Strategies to develop self-agency skills
The use of superannuation to manage the transition from work to retirement
The services that are available to support people managing education and work transitions and the type of support offered
The workplace factors that can influence wellbeing, including the legal right to disconnect, flexible working arrangements, work culture and workplace safety
The importance of work–life balance for wellbeing
The strategies for responding to circumstances that may impact wellbeing
The types of support systems that are available to help people manage and enhance their wellbeing
The importance and benefits of lifelong learning for career development
Ways that lifelong learning leads to Cultural sustainability for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities
The knowledge, skills and attitudes required to be a lifelong learner, including digital literacy
The identification and use of preferred learning methods to engage in lifelong learning
The relationship between lifelong learning and ongoing employability, including staying current with emerging technologies
Examine and practise skills relevant to education and work transitions and lifelong learning in hypothetical and real-world situations
Investigate a current issue in relation to education and/or work transitions and lifelong learning, and communicate findings using subject-specific terminology in written, oral, visual or multimodal form
Create written texts to explain and analyse aspects of education and work transitions and lifelong learning
