The new Visual Arts 7–10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027.
2025 and 2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Life Skills
- VALS-CHC-01
uses Artworld concepts to engage with the meaning in artworks
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Recognise that artists can create different types of artworks
Explore the work of artists or groups of artists
Identify the ways artists represent ideas in their artworks
Explore the work of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Artists
Explore artists from a range of cultures or contexts
Explore the properties of artworks
Recognise how artworks communicate to audiences
Explore artworks from historical or contemporary art eras and/or art movements
Recognise that artworks by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Artists are representations of Cultural identity and connections to Country and/or Place
Recognise ideas communicated in an artwork
Recognise that artworks can represent different times or places
Recognise the impact of technological advancements on artists, artworks or audiences
Recognise that audiences make judgements when engaging with an artwork
Identify that audiences can have varied responses to artworks
