The new Visual Arts 7–10 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027.
2025 and 2026 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027 – Start teaching new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.
Content
Life Skills
- VALS-CHV-01
uses one or more Viewpoints to communicate ideas about artworks or the artworld
Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.
Respond to materials and symbols used in artworks
Recognise the signs, symbols, codes or forms of visual and/or multisensory language used in artworks
Recognise the symbols and signs used by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Artists to communicate ideas in artworks
Use personal experiences to respond to artworks
Recognise emotion, personal experiences, imagination or memories in artworks
Recognise lived experiences, the Dreaming or Storytelling in artworks by Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Artists
Respond to artworks using own cultural experiences
Recognise that artworks communicate personal, social or cultural experiences
Recognise ways Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Artists represent Cultural and social perspectives of local Community(ies)
Respond to artworks that challenge beliefs, roles or relationships
Recognise that artworks raise awareness about ideas, social interests or concerns to challenge audiences
Recognise ways Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Artists challenge, critique or reimagine accepted narratives or relationships
