Stage 1

Movement skill and physical activity

All bodies are diverse and move in different ways. Some students with physical disability may do this through adjustments, including assistive devices. 

Complementary content for fundamental movement skills has been provided to enable some students with physical disability to develop movement skills focusing on ability. Teachers use the fundamental movement skills content in combination with complementary content to meet the needs of individual students. 

Participate with others safely and fairly in physical activities
  • Demonstrate spatial awareness in relation to people, objects and the environment when participating in physical activities

  • Dribble a ball at different levels

  • Participate in and describe the purpose of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander games and activities

  • Participate in physical activities from across the continents and identify how these foster a sense of connection

  • Apply fundamental movement skills to create and participate in physically active games

  • Demonstrate and explain how fair play and rules contribute to safety in group activities

  • Identify and participate in physical activities to enhance enjoyment and motivation to be physically active

  • Describe ways in which people use their strengths and abilities to be physically active

Fundamental movement skills support health and wellbeing
  • Demonstrate static and dynamic balances with different body parts

  • Run and sprint varying pace according to purpose

  • Jump vertically and horizontally with control

  • Hop from one point to another around objects

  • Side gallop, changing directions with control

  • Skip at different speeds and directions in games

  • Leap, using a long running step

  • Dodge, pushing from the outside foot

  • Catch balls and objects of various shapes and sizes at different levels

  • Throw balls and objects of various shapes and sizes underarm and overarm towards a target

  • Kick a ball with force towards a target or space

  • Strike an object using an implement towards a target

Complementary content for Fundamental movement skills support health and wellbeing
  • Demonstrate a personal posture while moving the body

  • Develop control when moving from one position to another

  • Bounce or push the body upwards maintaining stability and control

  • Maintain balance when moving or transferring from one position to another

  • Move the lower body with increasing control for mobility, posture and stability

  • Track objects of various shapes and sizes to bring them to a halt

  • Move the upper body to reach, push and pull with increasing control

  • Send an object towards a target
