Life Skills for Stage 4/5

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

School-developed option

Content in Thinking and working historically outlines how historical concepts and skills are to be integrated with all other content in this focus area as part of the process of historical inquiry.

Select one option for investigation. Choose from either a Focus on historical approaches or a Focus on historical narratives, or a combination of both. Students study content from the content groups Thinking and working historically and The nature of history.

Thinking and working historically
  • Use relevant historical concepts and skills

  • Engage in the process of historical inquiry, including the use of sources

  • Explore approaches, methods or tools used in history OR organise historical events or actions in chronological order

  • Explore historical sources to learn about life in the past

  • Organise historical events or actions in chronological order

  • Communicate ideas about the past through oral, visual, written or multimodal texts

Nature of history – Historical approaches
  • Tools and methods used to investigate the past

  • Methods used to present and share historical and archaeological materials

  • Protection and preservation of historical and archaeological materials

  • Significance of the selected option in understanding the past

  • Ethical considerations related to excavation, repatriation and/or ownership of the past

Nature of history – Historical narratives
  • Location and time period of the selected option

  • Key groups or individuals in the selected option

  • Key events in relation to the selected option

  • Different experiences of groups or individuals in the selected option

  • Significance of the selected option in understanding the past

  • Impact and/or legacy of the selected option
