School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts.

Stage 4
Through historical inquiry, students make connections, construct coherent accounts and explanations of the past and deepen their knowledge and understanding of history.
The focus areas provide context for developing and applying inquiry skills, which should be integrated with the content.
Choose a specific historical event, an individual, a period or focus area
Formulate historical questions
Plan an inquiry that identifies appropriate historical methods and concepts
Research and select relevant historical information from a range of appropriate sources
Draw conclusions by examining the value and limitations of sources
Use evidence from sources, taking into account the intended audience and the historical context, to support historical accounts and explanations
Locate and organise information in selected forms, such as plans, descriptions or tables based on themes or chronological order, to convey an understanding of the focus area
Present findings and ideas in a range of communication forms and technologies, using relevant and appropriate historical terms, concepts and information from sources to develop a historical inquiry
