Dance
Composing: Dance is composed using the elements of dance to communicate ideas
  • Improvise shapes and movements in response to stimuli and organise into a dance sequence

  • Modify movement pathways within a space to explore ways to communicate ideas in dance

  • Vary dance movements in response to tempo and rhythm changes in music

  • Experiment with dynamics to create effects with contrasting movements

  • Compose dance sequences using repeating and contrasting movements

  • Explore dance practices and protocols of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander artists to understand how Cultural ideas are expressed

  • Use notes and annotations to document ideas for a dance

  • Compose a dance sequence to communicate an idea by collaborating with others

  • Demonstrate respect for physical, social and digital safety protocols

Performing: Dance is performed to communicate ideas to audiences
  • Demonstrate dance technique through body alignment, control and balance

  • Rehearse and refine dance sequences for a group or class performance

  • Perform a group-devised dance sequence to communicate an intent to an audience

  • Reflect on personal experiences of composing and performing dance, recognising successes and challenges

Appreciating: The elements of dance are used in various ways to convey ideas through movement
  • Discuss ways dance connects to own personal, social or cultural contexts

  • Describe how the elements of dance are used to communicate intent in dance, using Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary

  • Engage with dance from cultural and historical contexts around the world to investigate ways dance practices are influenced by people, time and place

  • Investigate ways Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples engage in dance for story sharing, celebrations or Cultural expression

  • Use Tier 2 and Tier 3 vocabulary and a combination of written sentences to describe, explain or give an opinion about a dance performance
