Life Skills for Stage 6

Through collaborative curriculum planning, it may be decided that Life Skills outcomes and content are the most appropriate option for some students with intellectual disability.

Plant production
Plant features and their functions
  • Observe how different plants are grown in the local area

  • Identify features of agricultural plants grown in the local area

  • Participate in a practical investigation to identify the parts of a plant

  • Recognise the function of each part of a plant

  • Explore how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples use plant parts for medicine and food

Plant genetics, growth and development
  • Observe changes in plants that indicate growth

  • Explore the stages of development of an agricultural plant

  • Identify that plants use food for energy

  • Identify that plants use energy for growth, repair and to transport nutrients

  • Explore photosynthesis as the process that plants use to make food

  • Identify factors that affect plant growth

  • Recognise that the best conditions for growth may vary across a range of plants

  • Identify ways to grow agricultural plants

  • Identify and select the tools, equipment and resources needed to grow plants

  • Participate in a practical investigation into how light, water or wind can affect plant growth

  • Measure amounts of fertilisers required for specific plants
