The new Work Education 7–10 Syllabus (2025) is to be implemented from 2028 and will replace the Work Education 7–10 Syllabus (2019).
2026 and 2027 – Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2028 – Start teaching the new syllabus
School sectors are responsible for implementing syllabuses and are best placed to provide schools with specific guidance and information on implementation given their understanding of their individual contexts. Schools may choose to implement the new syllabus during the planning and preparation phase.

in Stage 4 teachers may adjust the Stage 5 outcomes as appropriate to the needs of students in Years 7 and 8.
Teachers select options from:
- Preparing for the workplace
- Workplace environments and culture
- Exploring post-school pathways
- Enterprise and entrepreneurial behaviours
- Managing income from work
- Connecting with the community
- School-developed option.
The nature and structure of the Australian labour market
Trends in the Australian labour market, including a comparison of past and present changes in its nature and composition
The differences in workforce participation of various groups
The reasons changes occur in the Australian labour market
The importance of a productive and inclusive labour market
The impact of changes in the Australian labour market on career pathway plans
Changes in industry sectors over time, including the primary, secondary, tertiary, quaternary and quinary industry sectors
The importance of transferable skills to adapt to changes across industries
The impact of technology on employee skill requirements in a range of industries
The significance of globalisation, including international economic influences
The benefits of Cultural businesses for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
The range of post-school pathway options available to young people at school
The factors to consider when choosing a post-school pathway
The education and training options associated with different occupations
The benefits of studying overseas
Opportunities and challenges in taking a gap year, including how travel, short-term paid work and volunteering can contribute to personal growth and career readiness
Resources and support available to young people exploring post-school pathway options
Research into occupations and courses using a variety of information sources and consider different routes to preferred occupations and courses
Examine and practise skills for exploring post-school pathways in hypothetical and real-world situations, including creating a personal action plan for achieving a post-school pathway option
Investigate a current issue in relation to post-school pathways and communicate findings using subject-specific terminology in written, oral, visual or multimodal form
Create written texts to explain and evaluate aspects of post-school pathways
