- Continue to teach the Modern History Stage 6 Syllabus (2017) for Year 12
2027, Term 4
- Start teaching new syllabuses for Year 12
- Start implementing new Year 12 school-based assessment requirements
2028
- First HSC examination for new syllabus
Content
Year 12
Students investigate key features, individuals, groups, events and developments that shaped the history of a selected nation. Students are to investigate ONE of the following countries during a specific period of the 20th century.
The historical concepts and skills content is to be integrated as appropriate.

- Japan 1904–1937
- Russia and the Soviet Union 1917–1941
- United States 1919–1941
Political, economic and social issues facing the Chinese Republic in 1927
The impact of the Northern Expedition
Achievements of and challenges to the Kuomintang (KMT)/Guomindang (GMD) Nationalist Government
The role of Mao Zedong in the rise of the CCP
The nature and development of CCP ideology
The Long March and its political and social consequences
The military, economic and social impact of Japanese invasions from 1931
Differing aims and strategies of the KMT/GMD and CCP towards the Japanese invasion of China
