- Start teaching new syllabuses for Year 11
- Start implementing new Year 11 school-based assessment requirements
- Continue to teach the Modern History Stage 6 Syllabus (2017) for Year 12
2027, Term 4
- Start teaching new syllabuses for Year 12
- Start implementing new Year 12 school-based assessment requirements
2028
- First HSC examination for new syllabus
Content
Year 12
Students investigate key features, individuals, groups, events and developments that shaped the history of a selected nation. Students are to investigate ONE of the following countries during a specific period of the 20th century.
The historical concepts and skills content is to be integrated as appropriate.

- Cuba 1940–1991
- Indonesia 1945–2004
- Iran 1945–1989
- Japan 1904–1937
- Russia and the Soviet Union 1917–1941
- United States 1919–1941
Political, economic and social conditions in Cuba under Fulgencio Batista
Cuba’s relationship with the United States pre-1959
The nature, development and role of the ideology of Fidel Castro and Che Guevara
The creation and role of the 26th of July Movement
The nature of guerrilla warfare and the activities of revolutionaries in rural and urban areas
Factors contributing to the success of the revolution
The consolidation of the revolution 1959–1961
Political changes and their impact on society, including opposition and repression
Economic changes and their impact on society, including nationalisation, industrialisation and land reforms
Social and cultural policies and their impact on society
The aims, nature and strategies of Cuban foreign policy
The impact of the Cold War on Cuban foreign policy
