- First HSC examination for new syllabus
Content
Year 12
Students investigate key features of the history of ONE of the following options in Peace and conflict.
The historical concepts and skills content is to be integrated as appropriate.

- Conflict in the Pacific 1937–1951
- The Cold War 1945–1991
- The Arab–Israeli conflict 1948–2000
- Conflict in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos 1954–1976
- Conflict in the Gulf 1980–2017
The impact of the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, including expulsions and refugees
Political developments in the 1950s, including the Suez Crisis
The causes, course and consequences of the Six-Day War
The formation, aims and strategies of the Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) 1967–1974
The causes, course and consequences of the Yom Kippur War
The policies of the Israeli Labor and Likud parties towards the Occupied Territories
The reasons for and impact of the Israeli invasions of Lebanon in 1978 and 1982
The role of Yasser Arafat
The formation and significance of Hamas
The First Intifada 1987–1993
The Oslo Accords of 1993 and 1995
The impact of the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin
The significance of the election of Benjamin Netanyahu
