The new Modern History 11–12 Syllabus (2024) is to be implemented from 2027 and will replace the Modern History Stage 6 Syllabus (2017).
2025 and 2026
- Plan and prepare to teach the new syllabus
2027, Term 1
- Start teaching the new syllabus for Year 11
- Start implementing the new Year 11 school-based assessment requirements
- Continue to teach the Modern History Stage 6 Syllabus (2017) for Year 12
2027, Term 4
- Start teaching the new syllabus for Year 12
- Start implementing the new Year 12 school-based assessment requirements
2028
- First HSC examination for the new syllabus
Content
Year 11
- MH-11-05
analyses different types of sources for evidence to support a historical account or argument
- MH-11-06
explains differing interpretations and representations of the past
- MH-11-07
communicates historical understanding, applying historical knowledge, terms and concepts
Students discuss contemporary methods and issues involved in the investigation of Loading history through a study of at least ONE of the following focus area options:
- The investigation of historic sites and Loading
- The Loading of the past
- The construction of modern histories
- The Loading and commemoration of the past.
The content may be taught as a standalone unit or teachers may develop an integrated study incorporating selected elements of 2 or more of the above 4 options. Content may also be integrated into Case studies.
The nature, range and importance of archives to historians of Loading history, including the digitisation of archival records
The Loading of historic sites and site Loading using Loading
The contribution of archaeological and scientific techniques to the investigation of the past
The contribution of historic sites and Loading (including oral history) to an understanding of events, developments and life in the past
